You're a master in turning curiosity into action. Your creativity and playfulness infuse humanity into leadership. Looking forward to part two and more insights into this transformative experience!
A curious question, do you have background in Design? : )
I 'sort of' have a background in design. Nothing formal insofar as it's not something I've studied, however I have facilitated several strategy workshops as a consultant. In my last 'corporate' role, I ran a leadership development organisation which needed me to have front row seats to how adult development programs and workshops are designed, so I picked up the skills via osmosis.
Facilitating strategy workshops and leadership development has been a crash course in understanding human behavior and how to create meaningful experiences. There's a lot of learning through practical experience and observing real-time patterns with people. My background includes digital product design, service design, wearables.
I enjoy discovering connections between creativity, simplicity, and impact – similar to what you've achieved with your 'Wonder Wall' activity.
A friend of mine who's a teacher compared it to a standup performance, and I think I agree with him. There's a level of energy to maintain to keep people 'engaged', and you have to be so present to the 'vibe' of the room and 'dance' with people where they are. I take it you've done a few workshops then? How do you keep yourself 'on your toes'?
Thanks Neela! Hahaha, well leadership is all about herding cats amirite? 😉
So one other share about focusing on simplicity during the design process: Emotionally it sometimes could feel a bit like going further and further out on a tightrope. Like... do I dare leave something else out? Will people understand this concept if I use one sentence instead of two?
I even left off an introduction about who I am and my background because I figured people could just read my bio on the handouts if they wanted, but it did feel weird leaving it out due to that emotional hang up of feeling like I need to justify why I deserve to be on stage.

I love the standup comparison! Keeping people engaged in workshops is definitely about staying present and adapting on the fly. :D
About facilitating workshops. For me, it's about active listening, being prepared but flexible, and staying true.
I love how you approached the whole thing Scott!
Who knew leadership workshops could involve so many felines lol?
What really struck me was your focus on simplicity. Trying to cram everything you know into a presentation is so tempting.
It's a great peek behind the curtain. Really makes me appreciate the art of facilitation.
Thank you for sharing.
