Hey folks, I just wanted to take my foot off the writing and philosophy pedal for a moment to share a couple of short updates regarding this newsletter and some changes you can expect to see.
I originally started publishing my newsletter (called the Ko Lab) when I stepped into the CEO role at Leadership Victoria (LV), as a way of separating Scott the CEO vs Scott the Founder vs Scott the guy who just wanted to nerd out on philosophy, curiosity, epistemology, and all the other -ologies.
Since I departed from LV, I’ve deepened my work on the Curiosity Mindset, developing new methods, frameworks and ideas, all because I passionately believe that so many challenges we face in life can be better addressed through a deeper practice of curiosity.
I’m at the point where I want to put into practice all my research and strategies to date, which means it’s time to get a bit more focused.
So what does that mean for this newsletter?
More focused (and more concise) writing
As I’m sure regular readers have noticed by now, I love me some long-form philosophical deep dives (maybe a bit too long)! However, they do tend to be a bit open-ended and pinball from topic to topic.
So here are a few things I’ll be doing differently:
I’ll be focusing a great deal more on the Curiosity Mindset, in particular as it pertains to 1) People, 2) Businesses & organisations, and 3) the Education sector. A better way of framing this is that I’ll be talking less about curiosity for the sake of curiosity, and more how it does or does not manifest in context of those areas
I’ll be shortening the length of these articles to be a bit less esoteric and a bit more practical, getting to the point more quickly, as well as providing suggestions on different strategies to deploy
As a result, I’ll be introducing a couple of variations to this newsletter:
Under the Microscope: Articles that focus on a single topic
Through the Telescope: Articles that lift the gaze to explore macro influences
Spinning the Kaleidoscope: Explorations and deep dives (they’re not going completely away!), book reviews, and Notes from the Field whenever I attend conferences and events
The newsletter will remain a weekly publication (at least for now)
A lot more talking
I’ll be getting back in front of the camera quite a bit more, as well as heading out to do more summits and give more talks.
In fact, if you’re involved at all in organising conferences, workshops or talks and you’re keen to shake things up (a la the ‘anti-leadership anti-summit’ event from a couple of months back), please have a chat with my agency: Ascend Events or slide into my calendar here.
We share the same passion and energy for curiosity and encouraging people to think about things differently, and I’d love to help you out, whether as a speaker, facilitator, or MC.
One last ask
I’d also love to get your input and suggestions! Regular readers and new subscribers alike, what’s something you would like to get more curious about? What’s something you’ve been stuck on? Or conversely, what’s something you aspire to, but need some help finding clarity?
Let me know and let’s get radically curious!
I love the new direction of the newsletter! Focusing on practical curiosity within specific contexts like people, businesses, and education is a remarkable shift. I’m mainly interested in how to cultivate curiosity without making it feel forced.
Can't wait for your upcoming talks and content. Keep up the AMAZING work!
Hey Scott, love the shift in direction here. It seems like you're evolving your message in a way that will impact us on another level. I'm especially excited about the focus on Curiosity Mindset and its real world application in businesses, education, and people. Have a good week ahead.
